2023 is already one of the best years for video games, fans say

Gamers are calling 2023 one of the best years for video games, and it hasn’t even ended yet.

There’s no denying this year has been home to some truly spectacular releases. So far we’ve been treated to monumental titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Starfield, with more huge releases on the way like Mario Wonder and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

That being said, with all the big releases already available this year and those yet to come, could 2023 be one of the best years we’ve had for gaming so far?

Reddit user -Megaflare- certainly thinks so, as they created a post on the r/gaming subreddit saying: “The amount of games we're getting this year is insane and it's getting hard to even keep up with everything. Even crazier is the fact that we are not just getting releases, but a good amount of them are from high-profile studios.”

They went on to list several high-budget releases from this year, like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Resident Evil 4 and Final Fantasy XVI, before concluding: “This year feels massive for video games, I don't think I can remember anything quite like it in recent years. Do you think it will go down as one of the best years for video games and how do you feel about the game releases so far?”

While many fans made it clear that previous years had just as good an offering when it comes to video games, many did admit that 2023 has had some phenomenal releases, especially considering so many are from the biggest franchises on the planet.

“Absolutely the best in a while. Hogwarts [Legacy] was great and then somehow FF16 was way better and now I’m about to start Baldur's Gate with Spider-Man next month. I’ll probably get Starfield in a few months too," read one reply. Another said, “Time will certainly tell, but I'm having a hard time thinking of one better.”

“It feels like one of the best years for gaming in a long time. Almost every new game I've played this year has been great be it remakes, new entries in long-running series or brand new IPs," said another person.

There are still many more releases on the horizon, but it’s pretty safe to say that when 2023 is all wrapped up, gamers will likely look back in awe at how many quality titles it contains.
