Xbox gamer uses free store credit to buy Nintendo Switch, PS5 games

Some serious big brain energy on display here

Some may see this as a betrayal, but we see it as using your free store credit wisely.

One Xbox user is showing us how it’s done by using their Microsoft points to get an “incredible haul” of both Switch and PlayStation 5 content.

Now that’s what we call a big brain move.

In a Reddit post that’s garnered quite a bit of attention, the OP explains, “Almost everything was paid for with Microsoft rewards points.”

Is Fallout 4 the best Fallout game to play first? We have some thoughts

“I exchanged my points for various gift cards, [and] only paid €40 for Princess Peach: Showtime! for Nintendo Switch. There were generous discounts in many of our biggest entertainment stores and their websites, which Amazon also matched the price with.”

Of course, we can only take the poster’s word on this. However, the evidence they’ve presented seems legitimate. Even more so when other gamers chimed in that they’d done similar.

“I cashed in over 500,000 points last year to get myself a PSVR2. Thanks, Microsoft!” revealed a fellow Xbox player.

We’ll be honest, we weren’t aware such a feat could be done, and will now be using our points to enjoy the spoils of all consoles, not just our Xbox.

You can say it’s silly or you can praise Xbox for being so forward-thinking in its acceptance of how its points are used.

Either way, Microsoft is potentially spawning new converts to the church of Xbox because it’s so relaxed about how we use that free store credit.

And no, this doesn’t mean Xbox is better than PlayStation, I’m merely making an observation.

It’s not all rainbows and sunshine, though, as some players believe Microsoft isn’t as pleased about this as you might think; they claim it’s reduced the ways in which you can obtain points for this very reason.

Whether that’s true matters little, all that matters is getting an impressive haul to show off online.
