Starship Troopers star Casper Van Dien wants to appear in Helldivers 2

Starship Troopers star Casper Van Dien wants to appear in Helldivers 2

The Starship Troopers crossover we need

Hollywood heartthrob of the 1990s and alien bug squasher, Casper Van Dien has seen a lot of attention of late. It’s not surprising after the launch of Helldivers 2 which has many parallels with Van Dien’s most popular film, Starship Troopers.

The game and the film each share a common enemy of alien bugs terrorising humanity. They even share the same humour and satiric edge. As soon as Helldivers 2 launched and found popularity people began to flock to Starship Troopers, realising it’s a classic film.

Helldivers 2 cannot be slowed down as the game continues to grow and find players

Casper Van Dien played the central role of Johnny Rico, a wise-cracking, ladies man who is ‘doing his part’ to eliminate the alien threat. Now, Van Dien wants to do his part once again and is more than ready to appear in Helldivers 2, and we’re here for it. In a recently deleted tweet Van Dien replied to a call from a fan asking developer Arrowhead if they could partner up with the star, or his Starship Troopers co-star Neil Patrick Harris.

In the tweet, Van Dien used a gif of himself with the caption “Desire to know more intensifies.” Why he deleted it is anyone’s guess, but it could point towards him already in talks with the developer. The actor has been aware of the game for a while and has already tweeted about it using the phrase, “The only good bug is a dead bug!” A crossover would not only be fitting, but it would embrace the humour of the game, especially if they could get permission for Van Dien to appear as his character of Johnny.

We’ll have to wait and see if the partnership develops, but for now we’ll be happy blasting bugs on the mega-popular shooter. There seems to be no slowing down of Helldivers 2, a game which has seemingly nailed the idea of ‘live service.’
