'Thor: Love And Thunder' Runtime Confirms One Of Marvel's Shortest Movies

'Thor: Love And Thunder' Runtime Confirms One Of Marvel's Shortest Movies

Thor: Love and Thunder's runtime comes in at under two hours - it's the first Marvel movie to do so since 2018.

It’s only three weeks until Thor: Love and Thunder hits cinema screens (in the UK, that is - US viewers will have to wait an extra day). Excited? You should be - it’s been almost five years since the release of Thor: Ragnarok, and I think it’s safe to say that fans are ready for some more on-screen Chris Hemsworth action. Come on, I know it’s not just me.

Beyond a potential Hemsworth and Pratt romance, the film is set to introduce a new villain to the MCU - Gorr the God Butcher, who’s just as terrifying as he sounds. But as reported by Game Rant, the movie is apparently going to be whipping through all this action in record time.

Take a look at the trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder right here.

It turns out that Love and Thunder is one of the shortest Marvel movies we’ve had in some time. Coming in at just 119 minutes (a minute short of two hours), Taika Waititi’s latest is 11 minutes shorter than Ragnarok. This also means that Love and Thunder is Marvel’s first movie under two hours released since Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018.

As for what’s going to be crammed into that time, take a look at the official synopsis from Marvel: “The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods,” it reads (via ComicBook). “To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who - to Thor's surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher's vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.”

Obviously, a shorter runtime doesn’t automatically mean that the movie will be worse. Honestly, I’m just glad that I’m going to be able to sip through an entire large Tango Ice Blast without having to dash out midway through the film. Maybe that’s just me.

Thor: Love and Thunder releases in UK cinemas on 7 July (8 July in the US).
