With the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in disarray in recent months, a new report has revealed that Marvel executives are ready to pull out the big guns which may just mean the return of the original Avengers’ lineup.
Despite an influx of content in recent years with multiple spin offs, shows and movies, reports have shown that the MCU is still bleeding money since Avengers: Endgame was released in 2019. As the conclusion of MCU’s Infinity Saga, Endgame was quite literally the end game and saw many of our favourite superheroes meet their demise, including Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.

However, according to a recent Variety report, Marvel Executives are considering going back to their roots by planning a new Avengers movie featuring the original cast. This plan would not only cause issues as it would mean reviving many characters but it would also prove to be very expensive. For example, Downey reportedly received $25 million for his role in Iron Man 3.

As well as bleeding money, the MCU has received complaints in recent years, especially for their use of VFX. This was seen with the release of WandaVision and She-Hulk which left a lot to be desired with its special effects. However, as a result of exhaustive 14-hour days, many Marvel VFX workers voted unanimously to unionise in September of this year.
At the time of writing, the new Avengers movie is yet to be “committed” to by Marvel but with the MCU frequently delving into the Multiverse, it wouldn’t be too far fetched to bring back dead characters. However, many fans are unhappy with this news and would rather see the introduction of new characters.
“Absolutely not. It's ok to let the past be the past and let things go. Build your new Avengers and stick with it. Bringing back old dead characters feels like a cheap move that undermines their sacrifice. Otherwise, what is the point if there are no consequences?”, wrote one Twitter user.
