Free Games Roundup: All The Freebies You Can Stay In And Play This Weekend

It's Friday, and you know what that means? You just completed your first week in lockdown! Seriously, well done. This is a tough situation, and you're getting through it. We all are. I can promise you I'll see me at the pub on the other side. You won't be able to miss me. I'll be the one passed out in the beer garden after one whisky.

Anyway, it's the weekend - our first weekend where staying indoors isn't just advised, but absolutely required. I know a lot of you will be struggling with this. So, just like last week, I figured I'd put together a quick roundup of all the free games you can get your hands on this weekend. I mean, if we're stuck inside we might as well dive into some great games, right? And if they're free? Even better.

Lets start with this week's free games on the Epic Games Store, because there are three instead of the usual two this time around. The biggest of these, which was added as something of a surprise, is Saber Interactive's excellent zombie shoot 'em up World War Z.

If you want to spend a few hours this weekend blasting undead in the face, you could do a lot worse than this one. Oh, and if you don't have a PC to claim it for free, World War Z is available as part of Xbox Game Pass. You could always grab a free trial for the console subscription service to play it, along with hundreds of other games.

The Epic Games Store is also offering the delightful and chill musical adventure Figment... and ultra-punishing twin stick shooter Tormentor X Punisher. I'm not sure Epic has ever released two more different games on the same week, but there you go.

Elsewhere, Ubisoft is offering its criminally underrated side scrolling RPG Child of Light for free on PC. I just want to make it clear that you only have until tomorrow, March 28th, to claim this one, so make sure that you do. It really is a lovely, soothing adventure that everyone should check out. All you need to do is create or sign into a Uplay account head to this link to claim it.

If I can tempt you with a free trial, meanwhile, Square Enix has announced that a demo for Life Is Strange 2 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The trial will take you through the episodic game's excellent first part in its entirety. Believe me when I say you have to check this one out. By the end of episode one, you will be hooked.

That's kind of it for new freebies... but if you missed my article last week then there are few things that are still available. GOG is still giving away an impressive mix of 27 PC games, so be sure to dive in and take a look. You're bound to find something you like.

As I mentioned last week, now is the perfect time to try out a battle royale like Warzone, Apex Legends, or Fortnite if you're curious. I've never been into any of these games myself, but over the past week I've found that playing Warzone with two of my friends has been a really fun way to stay in touch, so I do recommend trying it even if it's not your cup of tea.

While not free, there are also a few decent sales that are still going on. The Nintendo Switch UK store still has a decent Square Enix sale with discounts on a bunch of Final Fantasy games. There's a big March sale on PS4 right now, too, with plenty of classic AAA titles available for under £15. I can't recommend The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt enough at the best of times, but for just over £7? You're laughing.

And with that, I leave you for another week. But do remember that we're always on hand to recommend great games for you to keep your mind off of current events. Whether that's classic Flash games (which are free to be fair), open world epics, story-driven games, relaxing games, or even games to play with your kids... we've got you.

Now have a great weekend, and remember - we'll all get through this, yeah? Yeah. Oh, and do feel free to let us know on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram what you're playing this weekend. We're always down to talk video games.
