Free Games Roundup: Grab An All-Time Classic This Week

You don't want to miss this.

Here we are once again, at what I believe is week 761 of lockdown? I'm not entirely sure. Time has lost all meaning. Still, we're getting there. Every day is another step closer to all of this being over, and while some days are obviously harder than others, let's never forget that Friday is the day I round up all the free games that you can download and play this week.

I mean, I'm sure you'd rather have a vaccine or the ability to visit your grandparents, but we take what we can get right now. Read on to see what free treats are waiting for you to immerse yourself in this week. It's another big one, so get stuck in.

Civilization VI /
2K Games

Let's start with the headline act, because I know you're all about getting your value for (no) money. Sid Meier's Civilization VI is now 100% free of charge on the Epic Games Store. I probably don't need to say any more to sell this one to you. It's one of the most addictive and time-consuming games out there, so download it here and watch the real world melt away. You've got until May 28th to take advantage of the offer.

Elsewhere, Steam is offering the hardcore side-scroller 10 Second Ninja X for free, which is well worth a peek. You can also get your hands on the unusual stealth-horror title Showdown Bandit for the same low price of nothing at all.

Ubisoft doesn't have any new free games this week, sadly, but the company still has a pretty solid selection of free trials and demos that you can access from here. The Division 2 and Ghost Recon Breakpoint are definitely worth a little taste.

Aside from Civilization VI, it's kind of a quiet week I'm afraid. That's not to say the usual freebies aren't floating around though. GOG, somewhat unbelievably, is still giving away a massive selection of 27 classic PC games for absolutely nothing - go take a look. Assuming you haven't already bled them dry.

Call of Duty: Warzone /
Activision

You can (and should) also check out titles like Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, and Fortnite. All three are free to download and are fantastic in their own ways. There are also great subscription services like PlayStation Now and Xbox Games Pass which offer a great range of games for a monthly fee - or a free trial if you've not already had one.

Oh, I should also mention that anyone who signs up for Google Stadia right now gets two free months of Stadia Pro. This means access to games like Destiny 2, Grid, and Steamworld Dig 2.

That's... kind of it this week. But we're always here if you need us. If you want to read up on classic Flash games, open-world epics, story-driven games, relaxing games, or even games to play with your kids, then we have you covered.

Have a great weekend, and remember that every day is one step closer to this being over. Oh, and do feel free to let us know, on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, what you're playing this weekend.
