Free Games Roundup: It's A Huge Week For Awesome Freebies

Here we are again, my dear friends. The world is a strange and unpredictable place right now, and it looks like we'll be staying indoors for a while yet. I think if we were being honest with ourselves, we were all expecting this. This whole mess will take some time to fully emerge from, but we will emerge from it. Lockdowns are starting to ease all over the world - we just need to keep up the good work.
On that cheery note, I've got another roundup of all the free games for you to get stuck into while you're stuck inside for the next week. I've been doing this for four or five weeks now, but I have to say that this is by far the biggest and best week for free games yet, so read on! There's a little something here for everyone.
You've probably heard the really big news by now. Sony recently announced the excellent Play At Home initiative which, in addition to a $10 million relief fund for smaller indie studios affected by the crisis, involves giving all PS4 owners two free games to download and keep. Yes, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey are completely free for everyone right now.
That's three gorgeous remasters of some of the best action adventure games of the PS3 era and arguably one of the finest indie games of all time. If you've played 'em before... play 'em again! There are a few people who seemed to have a really problem with these games being free because they've already been made available via PlayStation Plus in the past... but those people are whiny little babies and I won't dignify their pointless moaning by discussing it any further.
Elsewhere, Ubisoft is continuing its winning streak of excellent free games with Assassin's Creed II. It's widely considered to be one of the best (if not the best) game in the popular franchise, and you can download and keep it by following this link right here. Not to be outdone, the Epic Games Store has the usual pair of freebies for PC players this week. The open world mayhem of Just Cause 4 can be yours to indulge in alongside the intriguing visual novel Wheels of Aurelia. Two very different games there. You have until April 23rd to get your hands on them.
But wait - there's more! An all-new mobile version of asymmetrical survival horror hit Dead By Daylight is now live worldwide on Android and iOS - and it's completely free. I couldn't tell you if it's any good as I haven't played it myself yet, but it can't hurt to give it a whirl.
Elsewhere, OlliOlli and Laser League studio Roll7 has released a brand-new free-to-play puzzle game. RunMe is described as an "esoteric turn-based puzzle game with glitch graphics, weird sounds, and a bunch of strangeness." Anyone who feels the last few weeks of freebies haven't offered any real brainteasers should take a look.
And that's about it for all the big new stuff this week, but allow me to remind you of the ongoing freebies. Battle royales like Call Of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, and Fortnite are all completely free and a great way to stay in touch with mates during this difficult period. GOG are also still giving away a massive selection of 27 classic PC games for absolutely nothing, so do take a look.
Finally, there are always subscription based services like PlayStation Now, and Xbox Game Pass. There are always some massive titles on these services, and you can pay monthly (or even bag a free trial if you've never used it before). With games like Marvel's Spider-Man, Bloodborne, GTA V, and The Witcher 3 available, you'd be pretty silly not to give them a go.
