Free Games Roundup: Another Massive Week For Great Freebies

Another week in lockdown draws to a close. The weather is absolutely gorgeous, because of course it is... but it's great to see that the vast majority of us are doing our part and maintaining physical distancing. Having said that, I am starting to have quite vivid dreams about going to the pub, so I could do with this being over soon.

Still, every day brings us one step closer to the end of this whole mess, and there are all kinds of things we can do to keep busy while we wait for the all clear. Some decorate, some exercise, some write their sure-to-be-unpublished first novel, and others play video games. If you're thinking about getting your game on this weekend, I'm back once again with a quick roundup of all the biggest freebies you can get your hands on. Read on, and hopefully something tickles your pickle.

If you're one of the hundreds of thousands of players who've been getting involved with Call Of Duty: Warzone recently, you'll be glad to know that there's a free dose of Modern Warfare multiplayer available via the battle royale all weekend. From 6pm tonight (Friday, April 24th) until Monday at 6pm, you'll be able to access 6v6 and 10v10 matches across five maps from Modern Warfare.

The only catch is that you'll need to have Warzone downloaded and install in order to take advantage of this, but the battle royale is of course entirely free. Speaking of free battle royales, I'll once again draw your attention to the likes of Fortnite and Apex Legends. It's not as if you aren't aware they exist, but now is as good a time as any to try one of these games out, right?

Intense shooters not really your cup of tea? That's fine. PC owners can currently get their mitts on the excellent strategy RPG For The King via the Epic Games Store. Granted, Epic usually offers two freebies per week, but you'll have to settle with the one adventure this time around. Still, it's a great game worth checking out.

Ubisoft is still doing its part with weekly free games and trials too. You can take a look at everything the company has on offer here, but the new additions are a free week of Monopoly Plus and a trial version of The Division 2. Both are a commentary on the fragile nature of capitalism in their own way. At least I like to think so.

Over on PS4, you've still got bags of time to download and keep Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey as part of Sony's Play At Home initiative. That's three stunning remasters of some of the best PS3-era adventure games, and one of the best indie titles to date. All for the low price of nothing.

Oh, I should also quickly mention Xbox Game Pass. Yes, it's a subscription based service, but for a monthly fee you've access to a massive range of modern AAA titles, past hits, and indie classics. PS Now also offers a similar kind of deal, but Game Pass gets a special shout out this week on account of Rockstar's sublime Red Dead Redemption 2 making its way to the service next month.

Finally, and somewhat unbelievably, GOG is also still giving away a massive selection of 27 classic PC games for absolutely nothing, so do take a look and see if anything takes yer fancy. Some absolute belters in there.

That's pretty much it for this week, but we're always down to clown. And by "clown", I mean talk about video games. If you want to read up on classic Flash games, open world epics, story-driven games, relaxing games, or even games to play with your kids, we've got you more than covered.

Have a great weekend, and remember that every day is one step closer to this being over. Oh, and do feel free to let us know on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram what you're playing this weekend.
