'Need For Speed Underground 2' Is Absolutely Crying Out For A Remaster, EA

How has Need For Speed Underground 2 not been remastered yet?

In one corner we have Electronic Arts, a publisher that will gleefully claw for our cash at any given opportunity, to the point where lawmakers and politicians are actually starting to get kind of concerned about it. In the other corner we have Need For Speed Underground 2, one of the most popular games of a generation, and a game that would result in vast wads of cash for EA, were it ever to appear in remastered form on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

It's not as if EA is against remastering its games. The Mass Effect trilogy has been given a new coat of paint and is dropping in just a few months. Hell, two Need For Speed games have already been remastered in the last year or so, in the form of 2010's Hot Pursuit and 2005's Most Wanted. Surely it's about time the iconic 2004 entry got a turn at the wheel?

Need For Speed Underground 2 can regularly be found near the top of fan polls and best-of lists, even 17 years and a dozen or so games later. There are also multiple petitions to this day that call for the game to get a modern day remake or remaster. Granted I also once saw a petition that demanded Head & Shoulders create a body wash called Knees & Toes, but it's a sign people are passionate, dammit. A Need For Speed Undergound 2 remaster makes sense. As does a body wash called Knees & Toes, now that I think about it.

Just imagine how good a next-gen remake could be, though. I'll admit they don't need to do much at all in the way of changing features of tweaking gameplay, but completely overhauled visuals capable of capturing the straight-up fire of the original game's soundtrack would make all the difference in the world. Speaking of that OG soundtrack, I'd maybe leave that alone in any potential remake. Maybe a handful of newer tracks and artists to keep things fresh, but let's not mess too much with perfection.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is very much my main frame of reference here, if I haven't quite sold you on the idea already (although if you're reading this it's probably because you already agree with me).

THPS 2 remains a damn-near perfect game on PlayStation, one that didn't need a remake at all. But who among us isn't overjoyed that it got a complete visual upgrade on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, adding in some great new features and fixes while leaving the feel of the game as it was back in the day. Give us that, but for Need For Speed Underground 2. That's all I ask.

I like to think it's only a matter of time before EA drops some kind of official reveal, and my belief in that of keeps me going every single day I don't have a remake of Need For Speed Underground 2 in my life. While I don't know for sure if such a remake will ever come, what I do know is that if I ever hear 'Riders On The Storm' start to play on an EA trailer, I will lose my shit.
