P3 Persona 3 Reload
There’s a lot of teenage angst in Persona 3 Reload and we revel in it. The Persona series has always managed to nail the overall feel of JRPGs and anime, creating a wonderful world in which to explore. The trappings of teenage years and school life sits somehow perfectly with the melodrama of an overarching evil. There’s a lot to love here, from wonderfully created characters who feel ever more real with each minute that passes, to monumental battles that feel over-the-top but incredibly satisfying.
Tales of Arise
Among the biggest and best JRPG franchises, you will find the Tales Of series that constantly shifts its stories and characters with each release. Tales of Arise is the most recent iteration of the RPG and it mixes a wealth of action-based combat with anime style that captivates from the off. Featuring a compelling story, Tales of Arise brings together two protagonists from different factions in a world at war. These opposing worlds bring plenty of intrigue, as well as drama in a story you won’t forget.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
A bit of a wacky adventure with the backdrop of a serious situation, Yakuza games always manage to meld a light humour within dangerous overarching stories. With Like a Dragon, you’re getting perhaps the funniest entry in the long-running series, with larger than life characters who are joy to spend time with. Add to this a brilliant turn-based combat system that accentuates the weirdness of the cast, you’ve got a wonderfully compelling game that will sink its hooks into you.
Immortals Fenyx Rising
A delightful and colourful open-world featuring a huge list of tasks, there’s something magical about Immortals Fenyx Rising. While the combat is great and the cast of characters based on Greek myth are brilliant, it’s the surroundings that really pull you in. Split into various biomes, the world of Immortal Fenyx Rising is a captivating one, with an array of puzzles and places to explore. The map not only personifies the Greek Gods overseeing your journey through small details, but it creates a place to really absorb this cartoon aesthetic based on thousands of years of great myths and legends.
Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
Combining open-world exploration and delightful quests, Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is not only a joy to play, but a feast for the eyes as well. Much like its predecessor, this sequel follows the design playbook of Studio Ghibli with gorgeous visuals and lovely characters. Paired with a sweeping soundtrack, this RPG will take you through quaint towns and dangerous dungeons on the road to building a new kingdom. With slices of battling, drama, and world building, you can’t go wrong with this terrific RPG.
