Warzone players rejoice, it seems that celebration is necessary as Verdansk, the ‘OG’ Warzone map, is making a comeback in 2024. Call of Duty players have been very vocal over the years stating that Verdansk is the favoured map for the battle royale. While developers have tried to introduce new maps with new settings, the franchise seems to always go back to Verdansk.
Given the Call of Duty release schedule, which sees a new title launched every November, we could see the original map back in rotation as early as December 2024 after the release of Call of Duty’s rumoured Black Ops: Gulf War installment.
Verdansk could make a comeback with a setting in a different decade
Verdansk has been changed and updated several times throughout the passing seasons of Warzone and fans can never get enough. Rumours abound about this next iteration of the franchise; Activision is rumoured to be changing up the preorder incentives for the next game, giving early access to the zombies game mode, rather than the campaign which has been the deal for the past few years.

Also, it is rumoured that Black Ops: Gulf War has had a four-year development cycle compared to the usual 16-month cycle, which could put fans’ minds at ease given the underwhelming campaign for Modern Warfare 3. There’s hope that the series can be turned around next year as 2023 saw delivery of one of the worst Call of Duty games in the series due to a lacklustre campaign, the removal of DMZ and repetitive multiplayer maps.
Modern Warfare 3 also saw the Warzone map change to Urzikstan which seems to have gone down well with players, but many want the battle royale to go back to its roots, so the relaunch of Verdansk could solve multiple problems at once. Of course, this could be changed at any moment during the development cycle, but hopefully, we’ll be dropping at hospital again soon.
