A Mass Effect TV Series From Amazon Studios Is Coming, Says Report

This is my favourite TV show on the Citadel

Amazon Studios has very nearly closed a deal to develop a TV series based on BioWare's hugely popular Mass Effect franchise, according to a new report.

In a new piece about Amazon's successful Wheel Of Time adaptation, Deadline claims that the company is working to adapt more beloved series, including Mass Effect. The report stresses that the deal is nearing completion, which means Amazon and EA haven't fully agreed on terms at the time of writing. Still, it's looking likely.

Take a look at some of our favourite Mass Effect characters in a strange new light below!

Given that work on the series hasn't progressed beyond negotiations with EA, it remains entirely unclear what kind of story a Mass Effect series would tell. At this point, it could be a completely original story set in the game's universe, or it could attempt to adapt the events of the original trilogy.

As cool as it would be to see a live-action retelling of Shepard's fight against the terrifying Reaper threat, I can't help but feel an original story might be better. The choices we made throughout the Mass Effect trilogy were always a part of what made the journey so personal to each of us, after all. It'd be odd to see a series adapt the games and ignore certain of those choices and consequences, right? But I'm getting ahead of myself.

It's looking like we're headed into a bold new age of video game adaptations on TV. If Mass Effect goes ahead, it'll be the second high-profile adaptation from Amazon Studios. Last year it was confirmed that the company had penned a deal with Bethesda to create a Fallout series. Meanwhile, HBO is currently working with PlayStation Studios on an adaptation of The Last Of Us. It's an exciting time for gamers, to be sure.
