Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse features spectacular animation, with one of the coolest scenes animated by a teenage Spidey super fan.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse features some jaw-dropping animation, and it's been revealed that one of the coolest scenes was animated by a 14-year-old Spidey super fan.

Warning, mild spoilers lie ahead. Across The Spider-Verse featured more Spider-People than we could have hoped for, many of which were references to the wall-crawler's hundreds of appearances and iterations. We saw Spider-Punk, Spider-Cat, and Scarlet Spider just to name a few, but one of the stand-out appearances was none other than LEGO Spider-Man, confirming absolutely nothing was off-limits.

Take a look at the film in action below.

That’s right, one scene saw the film’s villain, The Spot, travelling through universes, arriving at one that was made entirely out of LEGO. What followed was a beautifully animated stop-motion scene, where an adorable little LEGO Spider-Man informs Spider-Man 2099 of the inter-dimensional disturbance. Despite only lasting around 30 seconds, it’s arguably one of the most visually distinctive scenes of the film and a hilarious one at that.

What’s even better is that the entire scene was animated by 14-year-old Spider-Man super fan Preston Mutanga. The young man previously garnered a lot of admiration for recreating both Across The Spider-Verse trailers, which he posted on YouTube and as a result, got the chance to have his very own scene in the film. This was confirmed by the film’s producer Phil Lord on Twitter, who said, “The future of animation has arrived.”

Associate editor Andy Leviton also praised Mutanga’s addition to the film, saying, “It’s true! Preston is an absolute GOAT! He took our cut and blasted off with it, injecting his own creative ideas/flourishes. I had the pleasure of cutting in each pass he did and even the very first pass was so polished, professional, and FUNNY.”

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is out right now and is absolutely worth a watch, especially if you loved Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which is actually Tom Holland’s favourite Spidey film. We called Across The Spider-Verse “the greatest superhero sequel of all time” in our review, which you should definitely check out.
