Among Us is getting a TV adaptation

The hit online multiplayer game Among Us will be officially receiving an animated TV show adaptation.

If you’re unsure what Among Us is, i’d like to know where you’ve been for the past few years. Released in 2018 and created by Innersloth, the game takes place aboard a space station or ship, where a crew of survivors have to complete a series of tasks whilst an imposter/imposters lurk amongst them. Imposters can sabotage tasks, as well as kill other crewmates, at the risk of being voted out of an airlock by other players, so there’s a lot of strategy, manipulation and gaslighting involved.

The game really blew up during the COVID-19 pandemic, when a variety of streamers and YouTubers started playing the game online whilst they were stuck at home. It’s estimated that 60 million people were playing everyday at the peak of its popularity. It was also briefly featured in the Knives Out sequel Glass Onion. Whilst most of the hype has gone away, many still play the game regularly, and as a testament to its popularity, it’ll now be receiving an animated TV show, which was officially announced via the game’s Twitter account.

Details are few and far between at the moment, but Owen Dennis will be the creator and executive producer of the show, and Titmouse, best known for Big Mouth and Star Trek: The Lower Decks, is listed as the show’s animation studio. Owen Dennis is known for his work with Cartoon Network, most notably shows like Infinity Train and Regular Show.

Plot details haven’t been shared as of yet, but it’ll likely follow the objective of the game closely, with a cast of characters trying to figure out who the imposter is over a few episodes. Voice actors haven’t been cast yet. It should be an interesting watch, especially since Among Us is all about misdirection, deductive skills and is full of twists and turns. You can also expect a resurgence in players for the game once the show gets its trailer and eventually drops.
