Surprisingly enough, a delivery person was the one to reveal that Andrew Garfield would be returning to reprise his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That's sort of a strange sentence, so I'll hand over to the actor himself to explain how these fateful takeaway tacos ended up lifting the lid on one of the most anticipated movies of 2021.

In spite of being nominated for an Academy Award for his acting talent, Garfield is absolutely awful at pretending. His attempts to avoid the questions over whether or not he would be back in the Spidey suit for No Way Home were paper thin. I'm sorry - I think he's a lovely man but it was exceedingly obvious what the truth was. “It’s been a rare experience to play that mass game of Werewolf with every single Spider-Man fan in the world. That’s been incredibly fun," he said to The Wrap. Though, his job might have been a lot easier had a delivery person not twigged that he was delivering to the actor while he was staying in Atlanta to film his scenes in No Way Home.

Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast released on January 17th, the actor recalled that moment in Atlanta when he ordered a takeaway for himself and his two best friends who he was staying with. "I ordered takeout for us, and COVID is high, and I order food. It's literally my first night there, and it's great. I get to wear a mask everywhere. I get to wear a hat. Nobody's ever going to know I'm here, and I'm going to really be low-key and whatnot," he said. To be honest, it is an almost faultless strategy to avoid spoilers. Almost.
"So the guy comes to the door, the delivery guy - sweet seeming guy, nice seeming dude - and I open the door, I've got my mask on, my hat, and I'm like, 'Thanks, man.' And he's like, 'yo, yo, yo, I need to see your ID.' And I'm like 'Huh?'" continued Garfield. The delivery guy was adamant that Garfield show his ID card to him and approached the actor who was standing in the doorway.

"At this point, I'm super like, I've got to go to set tomorrow. I don't want to risk shutting down a Marvel set in the middle of a pandemic. So I'm just like, 'Sure, just one second. Would you mind just like stepping a few feet back because of COVID and everything,' and he does," he said, adding that the delivery guy claimed there was alcohol in the takeaway and that's why he needed to see ID.
Garfield wasn't convinced though, because there was no alcohol in the takeaway, and the name on his Doordash account is not his actual name. His friend Trevor showed his ID instead, the delivery guy went on his way, and not long after that, rumours that Garfield would be back in the next Spider-Man movie popped up online. And that the actor was impolite to the delivery guy.
"I did ask to do social distancing, but I obviously upset the man and I didn't mean to and I apologise for anything that may have been misconstrued as being rude," clarified Garfield. "I don't like upsetting people, but it just became this whole thing, and then I think he got in trouble. I don't know, whatever. But wherever you are, I know what you were up to. You were being sneaky, and you gave me a good challenge that night."
