In honour of Andy Serkis joining the cast of Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters, GAMINGbible sat down with the screen legend to discuss the upcoming title.

Playing the role of Grand Master Vardan Kai, Serkis explains that his character will essentially be the tutor for the player character. “He doesn’t suffer fools”, the Lord of the Rings star says. Take that as a warning to all you would-be-warriors.

But how would this deathly-serious character get on with someone like Gollum? “We should create a scene in this journey where Grand Master Vardan Kai basically tears into Gollum Sméagol”, the veteran actor suggests. “If Gollum Sméagol were to go on the mission, it would drive Vardan Kai insane!”

Sounds like the perfect crossover to me. In the blue corner, the stony-faced Vardan Kai, and in the red corner, the sickly-yet-oddly-strong Gollum of Middle-earth. I mean, it sounds one-sided but don’t rule out the latter and his scarily sharp teeth.

This glorious fantasy aside, Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters sounds thrilling enough as is. Set to release May 5, 2022 for PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), the turn-based tactical RPG will put players in charge of the Grey Knights, as they fight against a “galaxy-spanning plague”.

We recently got a hands-off look at the game, which offers a "wide variety of Nurgle threats", which can mutate across combat missions. We also saw the customisable Grey Knights, which allow you to add your own personality to your battling heroes.

With Andy Serkis voicing Vardan Kai, it already sounds like an incredible experience waiting to unfold. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that Gollum somehow finds his way in there, even if it probably will never happen.
