Animal Crossing: New Horizons will one day become unplayable, a gamer has warned their fellow island inhabitants.
Soon, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be totally unplayable and a legion of angered Nintendo Switch fans will swarm Twitter letting everyone know how displeased they are. Well, I say 'soon', but in truth the popular social simulation game in which players embark on a lifelong debt adventure with Tom Crook (sorry, I mean Tom Nook) will be unplayable in 38 years from now or 2061, to be more precise.

As reported by Gamesrader, Reddit user AdTrue4863 shared the news that pensioner gamers never wanted to hear: “In New Horizons you can’t play after 2061 the game will display that message.”
“Please close the game from the home menu and restart after setting a date between 1/1/2000 - 31/12/2060,” reads the in-game Animal Crossing: New Horizons message. However, if you are still loitering in the year 2061, never fear, because your game will still be playable if you rewind the console time. Phew!

“If that means there won't be another Amiibo Festival before 2061, I can actually live with that,” replied the not-so bothered tutelduck.
To be fair, 38 years is a long time - and that’s not too far removed from being the equivalent of someone today playing the NES or SEGA Master System. Retro gaming is as vibrant as it ever was today, so the likelihood is that there'll be plenty of us old-farts playing the Nintendo Switch in 2061.
That being said, don’t expect Nintendo to be supporting Animal Crossing: New Horizons after nearly 40 years, unless Redditor Cautious_Hold428 knows something that we don’t. “Someone over at Nintendo has a post-it on their monitor reminding them to update ACNH in 2060," they joked.
Though I’m sure Nintendo will still be releasing two Pokemon games per year with accompanying expansion packs for the next century and beyond, who knows what the future will hold for Animal Crossing.
