Happy Age of Empires anniversary celebration day! Even though Age of Empires’ birthday was on 15 October, the real excitement kicks off today (25 October), as an entire anniversary livestream will be taking place at 6PM UK time.
Anyway, it looks like we now know what at least some of that livestream will consist of. As spotted by Gematsu, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has now received a PEGI rating for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One in Europe, which very strongly implies that the game is coming to consoles soon.

How soon? Potentially within hours. On the official PEGI website, where the rating can be found, it states that the release date on Xbox is today. Whether that’s actually accurate remains to be seen, but it seems that the game could potentially be launching right after an announcement during the livestream. Time to get hyped.

What’s more, it was already confirmed earlier this month that a bunch of anniversary events are coming to Age of Empires IV, and the Definitive Editions of II and III - there’s a load of themed rewards to earn and in-game tasks to try out starting today. All in all, it’s a great time to be an Age of Empires fan, and it sounds like even more people will be able to join in on the fun shortly.
Age of Empires II has already had quite the year - back in February, two streamers got locked in a match that basically seemed like it was never going to end. With all the resources from the map gone, neither could create any new units, but with neither willing to give up, it went on for days. The whole thing was very tense, but sadly ended in a very anti-climatic fashion thanks to a connection error, after a whopping 97 in-game hours.
