Apex Legends announces its first openly transgender character

Apex Legends announces its first openly transgender character

The new Legend is an "experienced terraformer and defensive conjurer."

As part of the promotion for Season 15: Eclipse, Respawn Entertainment introduced the first transgender character in Apex Legends in a new animated short titled Stories From The Outlands: Last Hope.

Tressa, also known as her callsign Catalyst, is a transgender woman from the planet Boreas. In the short, she's divining Rampart's future from crystals and then the Legend asks her about her past, which is shown in the shine of the stones. We see that Boreas is under the protection of Hammond Robotics which has a strategy to save its dying moon, Cleo. However, Tressa and her friends are unconvinced that this is truly the company's intention, and say that they sense the moon's cries for aid. Two of her friends say that Margo, the witch with the orange hair, has gone too far with her activism in the past and leave as a result of the mandatory nighttime curfew.

Tressa stays and accompanies Margo on a hike to a summit with a beautiful view of the sunset. The two then comment on Tressa's recent transition and how much happier she is now: "I feel like the whole world has opened up, now that I'm myself." Margo, impressed with Tressa's strength, compassion and creativity, shares her idea to break into the facility down the hill and save Cleo from the Hammond Robotics relentless quest for minerals. Once inside, Tressa is fascinated with a strange black substance held inside a container, and it responds to the moon pendant on her necklace.

You'll have to watch the rest of the short to see how Margo and Tressa take on the full force of Hammond Robotics' security, as we have some gameplay details to dish out. Tressa is an "experienced terraformer and defensive conjurer" who uses that black ferrofluid seen in the short to "manipulate the battlefield." Season 15 will also arrive with a new map that is set in "Boreas' shadow" and there is the new gifting feature that lets players give Legend skins, weapon skins and more. As a reminder, Season 15: Eclipse releases on 1 November for all platforms.
