A petition to remove Amber Heard from Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom has now reached 3.2 million signatures.
Work on the upcoming DC movie is currently underway, and looking likely to meets its scheduled 2023 release window. Director James Wan is returning to direct, with Jason Momoa back once again as the world's moistest superhero. It was announced soon after that Heard would reprise her role as Mera.
Not everyone is thrilled about this. A number of fans have been very vocal about Heard's involvement with the movie from the beginning, calling on DC and Warner Bros. to oust her from the project. Following the ongoing and highly publicised legal battle between Heard and ex-husband Johnny Depp, those calls have only been amplified.
As I'm sure you're all-too aware, because the news is absolutely everywhere right now, Depp has brought a $50million defamation lawsuit against Heard. The former Pirates Of The Caribbean star alleges that the accusations of abuse against him are entirely defamatory. The ongoing court case has dredged up concerning accusations of physical and emotional abuse on both sides, leading to further pleases for Warner Bros. and DC to cut or greatly limit Heard's role in the upcoming movie.
Depp himself has lost work from Warner Bros. as a direct result of the allegations. He was replaced as Grindelwald in the Harry Potter spinoff series Fantastic Beasts, with Mads Mikkelsen taking the role in this year's The Secrets Of Dumbledore.
"Men are victims of domestic abuse, just like women. This must be recognized, and action must be taken to prevent a known abuser from being celebrated within the entertainment industry," reads the petition, which at the time of writing has over 3.2 million signatures and is barreling towards its 4.5 million target.
