'Aquaman 2' "Insane" Amber Heard Recasting Denied By Spokesperson

The high-profile libel trial that recently took place between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard was practically impossible to avoid if you used the internet in any capacity. That being said, I’m sure you’re aware by now that Depp won his defamation case after contesting Heard's claims of domestic abuse. Given the result, many have been campaigning for DC to drop the actress from the Aquaman film series.

Heard brought Mera to life in 2018’s Aquaman and has completed filming on the sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which is set to release in 2023. Amidst the trial, Heard claimed that her role had already been heavily pared back but DC’s Walter Hamada later refuted that claim saying it was actually due to Heard’s poor chemistry with leading man Jason Momoa. The plot continues to thicken folks.

This week, Just Jared claimed that Heard had been cut from the film altogether, with Mera’s scenes filmed with another actor. An insider apparently told the website, “Warner Bros. decided to recast Amber Heard‘s role after screen testing the movie. They are going to be doing reshoots with Jason Momoa and Nicole Kidman.”

Well, it turns out this may not be wholly accurate either. Just Jared later updated the article claiming, “Sources close to the Aquaman production have shot us an update, saying, ‘Amber has not been completely cut from the film. She still has a small role,’” but Just Jared continues to stand by their earlier claims. 

Insider then reached out to Heard’s team for further clarification who also deemed the Just Jared claims to be “false.” In a statement, they said, “The rumour mill continues as it has from day one - inaccurate, insensitive, and slightly insane.” Are you following all of this, or are you as lost as I am?

Warner Bros. appears to be the only party who have yet to weigh in on the debacle, despite holding all the answers. I’m sure Aquaman fans will keep their beady eyes peeled for the next update because as it stands, no one has a clue what’s happening.
