Assassin's Creed fans new and old rejoice, for you can currently get your hands on the best game in the series for the low price of nothing.
It's an exciting time to be a fan of Assassin's Creed, given Ubisoft is really throwing everything it has at the series. In just a few months we can expect Assassin's Creed Mirage to drop, while 2024 will take us to Japan and China via the long-awaited Assassin's Creed Red and mobile spinoff Jade.

But in the here and now? Well, there's still plenty to get stuck into. From now until 14 August, no less than five Assassin's Creed games will be free to play on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, plus PC via the Ubisoft and Epic Games stores. The five free games are: Assassin's Creed II, Revelations, Brotherhood, Black Flag and Valhalla.

While all five of these games are excellent, I'd venture to suggest that Black Flag is the one you absolutely need to check out. Certainly, an argument could be made that Assassin's Creed II is better. It'd be an argument that's completely wrong, but you could make it if you wanted to.
What helps Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag stand out from the rest? A charming hero who stumbles into the life of an assassin but is, first and foremost, a loveable outlaw? That definitely helps. Edward Kenway is one of the best, after all.
Black Flag also nails the pirate life aspect of the game in a way I genuinely don't think any other game, with the exception of Sea Of Thieves, has managed since. Sailing around the ocean with your merry band of no-good scoundrels, singing sea shanties, getting into scrapes, and finding buried treasure... simply exploring in Black Flag is a joy, and when you do finally get back on track and engage with the main story, you'll find one of the best Assassin's Creed adventures around.
Anyway, there you have it. Just a few days to grab the best Assassin's Creed for free, after which it will be heavily discounted for a few more days. If you've never checked it out, I urge you to do so now.
