'Assassin's Creed: Black Flag' Lead Writer Returns To Ubisoft To Work On Franchise

Darby McDevitt is back at Ubisoft and more excited than ever.

If we’re talking about the Assassin’s Creed series, many people’s favourite game in the series is Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. The combination of the awesome ocean battles, merry men singing sea shanties, and the classic Assassin’s Creed mechanics was a real winner, and that’s without mentioning the epic story. So we’re happy to see the lead writer of Black Flag is back working on the series and seems more excited than ever.

As reported by Comicbook, Darby McDevitt is returning to the Assassin’s Creed universe for even more narrative work. The developer was both the lead writer on Black Flag and the narrative director of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla so has plenty of work under his belt on the series. He has previously departed Ubisoft but with a new tweet revealed that he is coming back to work on the series once again, but we’re not sure on what quite yet.

His tweets say: “It's true! As I pondered my career over the past year, I focused on my desire to explore new ideas and unknown frontiers. Much to my delight, this is reflected in my return to Ubisoft to work on AC. I’m excited to continue my journey. Stay tuned!”

The developer then continues: “On a personal note, I have never been more excited about the places we're going and the stories I get to tell with this crew.”

But what will Darby be working on, is the question. Well, of course, we can’t know yet but as he’s very narrative-focused it stands to reason it’s one of the mainline games. However, there is a possibility that he’s being brought in to work on the Assassin’s Creed Infinity project - the live-service version of the games which will be an online experience exploring other stories and possible retellings of older games. But with all the experience Darby has, we’re intrigued to find out what he’ll produce next.
