Assassin's Creed: Black Flag has aged like a fine wine

Since the Assassin’s Creed series began in 2007 we’ve had some classic entries including Assassin’s Creed II and Brotherhood, Revelations, Odyssey and more.

One other entry from the series and one that is considered to be one of its best is 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. In my humble opinion, I’d be hard-pressed to say that Black Flag isn't my favourite game of the Ubisoft series.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag had it all, a charismatic leading character with Edward Kenway, fun combat and stealth mechanics, the fantasy of living a pirate life on the open seas and much more. Even a decade later, it still looks gorgeous, especially when played on PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. It’s a big reason why fans are hopeful that there is truth behind the Black Flag remake rumours.

“The year is 1715. Pirates rule the Caribbean and have established their own lawless Republic where corruption, greediness and cruelty are commonplace. Among these outlaws is a brash young captain named Edward Kenway,” reads the description of the game.

Fans on Reddit have been discussing their love for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, all these years later. “This game [Black Flag] holds up so well. The story is meh, and the detail isn’t like a Bethesda RPG, but damn, the gameplay is non-stop perfect. It’s varied, the combat feels great, parkour, and activities are all awesome,” said Redditor kallenl8.

“Hold up, story is meh? There's more character development than in Valhalla, the characters overall are masterpieces (Blackbeard is one of the best portrayals of Blackbeard I have ever seen) and the storyline fits well into the setting,” replied Inspector-Remarkable. “I'm not saying it's perfect, the ending can feel a bit rushed, but I would not say it's meh. I agree with most of the other points though, old AC games are awesome.”

“It's the only Assassin's Creed game I've played twice. Dang it, I'm going in for a third…,” said Fucklebrother. “The best soundtrack hands down in the AC series,” Rissay_mn replied.
