It’s been a strange time to be a fan of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. It’s one of the Assassin’s Creed series’ most popular instalments for good reason, and fans have been begging for a sequel and remake for years on end.
Earlier this year, one of those wishes came true in an unconventional way - a WEBTOON series, titled Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple, released online. Ubisoft confirmed that the series is a direct sequel to Black Flag, as it continues Edward Kenway’s story - this time along the coasts of the Southeast Asian seas as he goes on a journey to find the Pieces of Eden. A cool concept, no doubt, but given its non-game format, it probably wasn’t the sequel that fans have been hoping for for an entire decade.

Now though, it’s been reported that a new-gen remake of Black Flag is on the way, which - if true - will certainly help make up for any disappointment fans felt about Forgotten Temple. Kotaku reports that, according to two anonymous sources, the remake is in development right now, but it won’t be completed for several years as it’s still in its “earliest stages”. It’s claimed that a team at Ubisoft Singapore are involved in the project - the Singapore studio is also currently working on the heavily delayed pirate action-adventure title, Skull and Bones.

Right now, Ubisoft is yet to officially confirm this claim, so take it with a pinch of salt for now. We already know that the company is working on a number of other Assassin’s Creed games - as well as Mirage, which is releasing this autumn, Codename Jade and Codename Red (titles set in ancient China and feudal Japan, respectively) are also in the works, which will bring the series to two settings which fans have been clamouring after for years.
