Assassin's Creed Fans Furious As Ubisoft Pulling Purchased Game From Their Collection

One of the most underrated - Assassin's Creed games has been pulled from Steam. Worse still, it looks like even if you already own it, you won't be able to access it from September.

As first spotted by PCGamesN, Assassin's Creed Liberation HD is no longer available to purchase from Steam, apparently "at the request of" Ubisoft.

While the 2014 Assassin's Creed III spinoff probably isn't as widely remembered as it deserves to be, it's a pretty great adventure in its own right.

Liberation stars Aveline De Grandpré, the series' first (and so far only) black female lead in an adventure that runs parallel to the events of Assassin's Creed III. It also happens to be the best thing to have come from Assassins' Creed III, although that isn't saying much.

Games getting pulled from sale isn't particularly unusual - although it's never great. The real issue here is that even those who have purchased the game will be unable to play it in a few weeks. A message on the Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD Steam page states the game “will not be accessible following September 1, 2022.”

The game also isn't showing up on the Ubisoft Connect storefront, either, which is concerning. It's not clear why this specific version of the game is being pulled, but Steam reviews do note that Liberation has been plagued by technical problems for some time now.

Needless to say, those who paid for the game are less than pleased at the prospect of Ubisoft taking it back off them. One user on Twitter described it as a "new low" for digital consumers, while others have genuinely suggested simply turning to piracy if this is what the future of digital ownership looks like.

"I strongly feel this is going to become more common as we move forward with a digital release only culture," one customer fears. "I hate it."

Another asked; "Seriously, What the f*ck Ubisoft? Luckily there's still piracy."

Earlier this month, PlayStation and Sony announced that it would be pulling certain digital movies from customer's libraries. Classics like Paddington, John Wick, and many more will no longer be accessible regardless of whether or not you paid for them. Yet another strong argument against relying on digital ownership - at least until we see big changes.
