In case you’ve missed our current knowledge of the future of the Assassin’s Creed series, it’s going online. Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be the next evolution of the games in that it will be a live-service offering. Apart from that, very little is known about how this title will take shape, but as the original series is one of the staples of single-player adventures, there has been some worry that Infinity will replace them. However, a new rumour claims this isn’t the case.
On the Gaming Leaks and Rumours subreddit, ScreenRant spotted a post from a user claiming to know that Assassin’s Creed will continue to have single-player titles alongside Infinity. Smooth-Earth2875 posted a block of text with some alleged insider information, and one person on the mod team for the subreddit has seen the evidence they’ve accumulated behind-the-scenes. Though not definite, it seems the evidence has “some merit” because although it is “fake-able”, the amount of effort it would take to fake it would be significantly above what someone would be reasonably willing to go through.
Here are some of our favourite Assassin's Creed Valhalla wins and fails...
The post is as follows: “Though in the early stages of conceptualisation and development Assassins Creed Infinity is in a solid enough state that I can confidently describe what shape the game will take. Infinity is inspired by the Helix from Unity. Each entry will be a small linear experience with semi open-world levels like the Hitman games and each assassins story will feature multiple missions. Ubisoft is also planning to remake and retell older Assassins Creed games in Infinity. It is still [too] early to determine what older games if any will be retold. Lastly, a new story will be added over time for an additional cost. Open world Assassins Creeds will be developed at the same time as Infinity.”
You know, that sounds pretty cool to me. As a long-time Assassin’s Creed fan, there are elements of the older games that deserve to be remade and re-explored. I mean who doesn’t want to revisit the Italian trilogy and honestly, though it was the beginning of the series, Assassin’s Creed has aged terribly. I’d love to see it reworked to fit the modern standard of the titles.
