In a surprising turn of events, it seems as though a future Assassin’s Creed entry will sway from its usual historical setting and aim for the future courtesy of some uncovered leaked audio.
Up until now, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has taken us through the far reaches of history including such times as the Renaissance era, Ancient Egypt, Victorian London and more. With the Ubisoft series being the fun history teacher we always wanted, it is perhaps surprising to learn that a future instalment may take place in the distant future.

Courtesy of a video uploaded to Youtube by Sliderv2, we can hear some unreleased audio footage from an Assassin’s Creed Mirage datamine. In this footage, we hear two anonymous Animus Operators refer to the 21st century as “ancient history” which if true, could mean this entry in the series could be set many years from now.

In previous entries, the timeline has switched between the historical period to “modern day” as our secondary main character dives into the memories of their ancient ancestors. However, the modern day has always been around the current real life time period and never strays too far. As a result, this footage that is under the “Neo” codename (relating to Assassin’s Creed Hexe) could mean we switch between an even bigger time period.
After speaking to the anonymous source, Insider Gaming has learned that the “Modern Day” story will be set in the future but it is unclear if this will happen in upcoming entries such as Assassin’s Creed Hexe or Assassin’s Creed Red.
Additionally, this audio footage may also be fake as it has not been confirmed by Ubisoft to be legitimate. However, with the Animus side of the story taking a bit of a back seat since Desmond Miles, it would be interesting to see how this played out should it be true.
