Assassin's Creed Mirage free download announced in time for Christmas

Christmas is the time for spending time with family, eating lots of food and locking yourself in your room to play Assassin’s Creed Mirage courtesy of a free download that is set to bring New Game Plus to the title.

First released back in October, the latest instalment in the long-running Assassin’s Creed series saw us dive into the world of 9th century Baghdad with our assassin, Basim. With the title becoming Ubisoft’s biggest PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S launch to date, it is no wonder the studio is already working hard on extra features for its fans.

That is why Ubisoft took to Twitter to reveal a New Game Plus mode that will be arriving in a free update next month.

“Hello Assassins!,” the Tweet read. “New Game + for Assassin’s Creed Mirage is coming next week! Dive back into Basim’s journey with your current progression and new rewards”.

Not much more information was included but we do know that progression from your main save will carry over which includes your weapons and armour. Additionally, there will be some mysterious new rewards and the ability to tackle the new mode across all difficulty levels.

Not only will New Game+ be arriving, but Ubisoft will be adding a permadeath mode to Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Although this was originally planned for December, it has since been delayed.

“The team is still working on the permadeath mode, which is expected to release in an update early 2024,” Ubisoft announced.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage was a highlight for our very own Sam Cawley when he played it back in October with the title being a “leap of faith that sticks the landing”.

“Ultimately, I think Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a glorious return to form for the series, and I had a joyous time playing through it,” he wrote in his review. “It’s great to see the series shift its focus back to stealth and a compelling narrative about the Order of Assassins, and I sincerely hope Ubisoft treat Mirage as the new baseline going forward, whilst still evolving the series further.”
