Assassin’s Creed fans worried about losing the “old school” style of games needn’t fret – as far as the developers are concerned, they’re working to make this happen.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage, while not faultless, has been widely praised for its welcome return to classic AC gameplay.
Consequently, fans have been wondering if this was a one-off from Ubisoft or whether the trend will continue.

This comes at a time when it’s been revealed upcoming instalment, Assassin’s Creed Hexe, will leave behind open worlds for a more linear experience.

During a Q&A with Assassin’s Creed Mirage developers, Stephane Boudon and Jean-Luc Sala, the devs were asked if they’d be “interested in developing additional old-school AC games”.

Their response? “We work in the dark to serve the light,” finished off with a winking emoji.
To some, this may be a little too cryptic for it to offer any reassurance or confirmation, but not to the person who asked the question.
“I LOVE THIS!” they replied. “Best answer possible, and from one of my favourite AC games. Thank you!!”
Without succumbing to our own wants and speculation, it does seem like the devs are telling us they’re committed to keeping the classic ways of the creed alive.

Does this mean still unwritten “old school” titles won’t be as dark as AC Hexe, which is said to be the darkest franchise entry to date? We can’t say. But even if they’re not as unnerving, they’ll rekindle the dying embers of the original Assassin's Creed.

The future of Assassin’s Creed may not be so different, especially if the AC Mirage team has their way.
