Games set in Ancient Greece are great: Discus

Ubisoft has announced that its excellent 2018 open-world adventure Assassin's Creed Odyssey will be completely free to download and play for the next few days.

For those that have never played it, Assassin's Creed Odyssey is quite easily the largest game in the long-running series, both in terms of its epic story and ridiculously huge map. More often than not the game's scope actively works against it, but there are plenty of thrills to be had in exploring such a large and detailed recreation of Ancient Greece. I definitely advise you check it out if you've never had the pleasure!

From December 16 at 9am to December 20 at 7pm (local time), Assassin's Creed Odyssey is totally free to play on all platforms - even Stadia! If that is, for whatever strange reason, your platform of choice.

"Choose your fate in Assassin's Creed Odyssey," Ubisoft writes. "From outcast to living legend, embark on an odyssey to uncover the secrets of your past and change the fate of Ancient Greece."

To ensure you aren't wasting any time, you can download the game right now and be ready to play when the servers are open. Once the free weekend comes to an end, your progression will carry over if you decide to buy the game. If not, just be content in the knowledge that you spent a fun weekend in Ancient Greece.

You can head here to choose your platform and start downloading the Assassin's Creed Odyssey trial.

Ubisoft has also confirmed an interesting new series of Crossover Stories - free DLC quests that will bring together Assassins from previous games in the series' long history.

The first of these Crossover Stories, available right now, takes place across Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and will bring Kassandra face-to-face with Eivor.

Part one of the quest is playable in Odyssey and sees Kassandra return to search across Greece for a powerful Isu Artefact. Part two, in Valhalla, sees Eivor meet a much older Kassandra as the hunt nears its end.
