'Assassin's Creed Origins' Is Getting A Long-Awaited Update

'Assassin's Creed Origins' Is Getting A Long-Awaited Update

A new update has been datamined, and it's good news for PlayStation 5 players.

It feels like the news this week has just been packed with various fan-favourite games finally getting their new-gen updates. Okay, admittedly Red Dead Redemption 2’s isn’t actually officially confirmed yet, but let’s face it - it’s only a matter of time. As for The Witcher 3 though, that’s definitely happening - it was announced yesterday on the game’s seventh anniversary, with its shiny new version planned for Q4 this year.

Now, it looks like PS5 owners are getting an upgraded version of yet another excellent title. As reported by Eurogamer, a new update for Assassin’s Creed Origins has apparently been datamined, and it’s looking like a big one.

The Assassin's Creed franchise has been through a lot over the years - take a look at the evolution of the games below.

The update hasn’t actually been announced by Ubisoft just yet - it was discovered by Twitter account @PlayStationSize, which regularly highlights juicy tidbits of information like this by going “behind the scenes” (as Eurogamer puts it) on the PlayStation Store. According to them, the 1.60 update is set to launch next week, and will add a ‘Franchise Menu’, as well as enabling a “higher frame rate” when running on PS5.

So, it seems like 60FPS is coming - last December, on Assassin’s Creed Day (the 21st of the month), Ubisoft confirmed in a tweet that they were “looking into adding 60FPS support for Assassin's Creed Origins, so stay tuned”. Looks like that day has finally come. It may not be a full new-gen update in the traditional sense, but it’s definitely going to make exploring Ancient Egypt that bit smoother.

Also, if you were wondering what on earth a ‘franchise menu’ is, if the one in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is anything to go by, it’s basically just a hub to show off the other games in the series. Which is kind of neat, I guess? But the frame rate improvement is certainly going to be the addition that players are going to be the most excited about.

According to the leak, we only have a week to wait to find out if this is all true or not, so let’s watch this space.
