A Stealth-Focused Assassin's Creed Set In Baghdad Is In Development

Ubisoft is reportedly developing a smaller standalone Assassin's Creed game with a greater focus on stealth, planned for release in 2023.

That's according to a new report from Bloomberg, which has also been corroborated by Eurogamer. The upcoming game is reportedly rumoured to take place in the city of Baghdad, and will feature Basim, one of the main characters and assassins seen in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

According to Bloomberg, the project was originally pitched as yet another expansion for Valhalla, but ultimately grew into its own smaller adventure. As a result, the open world isn't expected to be anywhere near the size of Valhalla, Odyssey, or Origins. Instead, it's more likely to be around the size as one of Valhalla's individuals regions, which means the action will be much more focused.

The game's story is expected to explore the life of Basim before the events of Valhalla, and will no doubt explore his relationship to the wider Assassin's Creed universe.

Ubisoft told Bloomberg that it won't "on rumours or speculation as they do a disservice to our development teams and community". However, it did confirm that it has a "solid and exciting line-up of titles in our pipeline, both established brands with new story twists and features, and brand new IPs that will continue to change the landscape of today's video games".

The next Assassin's Creed adventure will be a supersized expansion for Assassin's Creed Valhalla that focuses on the fantasy side of the story, picking back up with Odin and the Gods of Asgard. Dawn Of Ragnarok launches later this year, and is expected to add over 40 hours of new content.
