Assassin’s Creed fans everywhere have been anxiously anticipating news about the next title in the series. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the franchise, and in celebration, Ubisoft have been throwing a number of special events our way.
Most notably, sometime next month, Ubisoft will be hosting a livestream which will unveil “the future of Assassin’s Creed”, which many speculate will take place during the Ubisoft Forward multi-game showcase on 10 September. If you need something to tide you over until then though, it’s now been confirmed that a huge free update to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is coming tomorrow (2 August).

As reported by PCGamesN, Valhalla’s Forgotten Saga DLC is set to introduce rogue-lite gameplay to the series for the very first time, which in and of itself is super exciting. Basically, weapons are randomised each run, and each time you die you’ll be thrown back to the start, but you can carry your armour over to future runs, making things progressively more manageable. Think Hades, except with a nice Assassin's Creed coat of paint on top. Fun stuff.

The DLC will star Odin as the playable character on a journey through four regions of Niflheim, fighting Hel’s many enemies. Each region contains a number of secret merchants and areas, filled with unique enemies which unlock permanent upgrades when defeated. The merchants also offer upgrades and abilities, although you’ll have to spend your gold for those, of course.
Bizarrely, the release date was confirmed via a YouTube comment posted by Ubisoft on a recent video (and first highlighted over on Reddit). So, it’s come a lot sooner than I think any of us expected, to say it was only just announced in June, but it looks like it’ll be loads of fun.
Next month, it’s suspected that the “future of Assassin’s Creed” which has been teased may actually be Assassin’s Creed Infinity, an upcoming live service game which will serve as a huge shakeup of the franchise. This might not be the single-player title that most fans are anchoring after, but we’ll just have to wait and see how things play out.
