Avatar: The Way of Water has been a long time coming and by ‘a long time,’ I mean 13 years. I was on a middle school trip when I saw the original Avatar and now here I am preparing you all for the intense bladder control bootcamp James Cameron wants us all to get booked into, but more of that later.
The long-awaited sequel appears to have gone down pretty well, landing an audience score of 95% over on Metacritic. I can attest that a member of the GAMINGbible team told me it’s a “very beautiful” film to which I followed up by asking if they’d watch a third instalment. “No,” they replied, so make of that what you will. One of the problems with The Way of Water is that it’s pretty, damn long but prepare yourselves folks, because James Cameron now wants to make a six-hour movie.

That’s right. Cameron recently sat down with Variety to chat about his ambitious plans. “I want to do a movie that’s six hours long and two and a half hours long at the same time,” he explained. Thankfully, there’s a little more to it. “Same movie. You can stream it for six hours, or you can go and have a more condensed, roller coaster, immersive version of that experience in a movie theatre. Same movie. Just, one’s the novel, and one’s the movie. Why not? Let’s just use these platforms in ways that haven’t been done before,” he added.

Phew. That means we can pause and pee - a relief to us all I’m sure. Although please don’t mention urinating to James Cameron. He gets very angry. Earlier this year, he encouraged cinema-goers to simply get up and pee instead of moaning about it. A simple solution but also, movies are not cheap to see anymore. I want my money’s worth - in other words, to see the whole thing.
That may not be possible with Avatar 3 though. The film has got to go through some cuts, but insiders claim that it’s currently sitting at nine hours long. Please, no.
