'Batgirl' Movie Reportedly Cancelled And Won't Ever Release

Remember Batgirl? We never got a trailer, but last year, it was officially confirmed that the Warner Bros. film would be a HBO Max original, starring American singer and actress Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, and it should have been gracing our screens sometime this year.

However, as reported by TheWrap, Warner Bros. Discovery have now apparently decided that the $90 million budget movie will no longer be released at all, neither in cinemas or on HBO Max. A follow-up to the 2020 animated Scooby Doo film, Scoob!, titled Scoob! Holiday Haunt, has also been axed.

Batgirl will be starring as a playable character in Gotham Knights - take a look below.

“The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max. Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance,” a Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson said (via TheWrap). “We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future.”

Last December, it was revealed by way of a movie preview kit that none other than Michael Keaton was supposedly set to reprise his role as Batman in Batgirl. The actor previously starred as the Caped Crusader back in Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992). The preview kit stated that “credits are not final”, but in an interview with VRTNWS, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah said that the Batman involved in the film would be “the real one”, which led to further speculation.

Brendan Fraser was also set to star in the movie as the villainous pyromaniac Garfield Lynns, AKA Firefly. Last year, on his birthday, he was surprised on set with a cake decorated with flames to honour his role in the movie.
