'Battlefield 2042' Gets Basic Multiplayer Feature, Five Months After Launch

You have to hand it to them, DICE are desperately trying to save the sinking ship that is Battlefield 2042. Admittedly, the developers did quickly patch the bugs and glitches that plagued the game’s release, but it just wasn’t enough to keep hold of a disappointed and dwindling player base.

Earlier this month, recorded players on Battlefield 2042’s Steam Charts fell to just 976 concurrent players, which is abysmal to say the least. Well, there’s good news for the 976 people that still care. Battlefield 2042 has now introduced an important (yet basic) multiplayer feature, albeit five months too late.

The recent update brings voice chat to the game. If you’ve never played Battlefield 2042, you could be asking yourself, how could a multiplayer game not already have voice chat? Reader, it’s a good question and one that I don’t have the answer to, but five months eh? Better late than never.

There is a catch to the voice chat. You can only use the feature in Squads and Parties, which means voice chatting to just a few select chums. To access the new feature, DICE provided the following instructions: "There are two voice chat channels to choose between: Party and Squad. Settings for VoIP can be adjusted via Options > Sound/Voice > Chat while in-game."

The update also included other minor improvements such as overhauled weapon attachments, progression improvements and vehicle fixes and DICE aren’t finished yet, as they promise that their next update “is presently scheduled to release in May". Sigh. They’re doing their best folks, let's give them some credit.
