Battlefield 2042 players have started a petition demanding that publisher EA work out a system to allow refunds on all platforms.
DICE's long-awaited futuristic military shooter launched last November to a wave of negative reviews and angry fans who felt let down by the state of the game. Within just a few weeks of launching, Battlefield 2042 was already one of the worst-reviewed Steam games to date, and its player numbers have been steadily declining on PC ever since.
Battlefield 2042 is in such a sorry state that players have been asking for refunds for weeks now. Steam almost immediately offered full refunds for the game, of course. But unfortunately each platform has a very different refund policy, meaning getting your money back on a game you don't like is very rarely guaranteed across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC - except in those rare instances where a title is so clearly completely and utterly broken.

You might remember that Cyberpunk 2077 was so bad that PlayStation and Xbox changed up their refund policies specifically, with the former going so far as to completely pull the game from its digital storefront for nearly six months.
While Battlefield 2042 arguably isn't as rough as Cyberpunk 2077 was (arguably being the operative word here), fans believe that there should be a similarly universal returns policy in place for the shooter.
A Change.org petition (so often the catalyst to real progress) created by one disgruntled player has already amassed over 20,000 signatures.
"EA’s release of Battlefield 2042 was a mockery of every customer who purchased this video game for $70 (USD) due to EA’s false advertising," the petition's creator writes. "Battlefield 2042 has cost consumers millions of dollars in damages and upset thousands of customers worldwide.

"According to many consumer reports, Electronic Arts and DICE did not keep many promises made at launch, and Battlefield 2042 was launched as unplayable. Even today, Battlefield 2042 has bugs that drastically change the in-game experience so much that it’s deemed an unfinished release by many community members."
Sony and Microsoft have yet to respond to the petition. Don't hold you breath.
