Beloved Zelda Classic Is Not Coming To Switch, Says Developer

Tantalus Media's CEO recently spoke out about one major Zelda title, claiming Nintendo had not approached them to work on a Switch port.

There are very few Zelda games which are yet to make their way over to the Nintendo Switch, but there’s two major titles that still remain just out of touch. Yes, I’m talking about The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

Rumours regarding the future of these two titles have been around for a while. An announcement was expected during Zelda’s 35th anniversary last year, but alas it never came. Just a few weeks ago, insider Jeff Grubb teased that the duo would be released as a bundle this year but Twilight Princess developer Tantalus Media had something very different to say.

Can't wait for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wilds 2? Me neither. Ease the wait by taking a look at this first look below.

Tantalus have recently confirmed that no one from Nintendo has approached them about porting Twilight Princess to the Switch, so it's bad news for fans. Tantalus previously worked on the Wii U port of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and was also responsible for the Skyward Sword HD Switch port.

Tantalus CEO Tom Crago opened up about the status of the rumoured project during a recent appearance on the Fragments of Silicon podcast.

He said, “We’d obviously love to do that, but that hasn’t been a priority for Nintendo – or at least not in conversations that they’ve had with us. The way it works with our friends over there is we’ll jump at any opportunity we can to work on one of their titles. There’s a constant dialogue between our two companies.”

He went on, “Often there’s a little bit of time that passes between titles, and there might be other ideas that are kicked around, but in the case of Skyward Sword, some time passed and then the email comes: ‘Would you be interested in considering bringing Skyward Sword on to Switch?’ To which the answer is of course, ‘Yes we would.’ And then we enter into the conversations with Nintendo around what that might look like and eventually we get underway.”

That’s not to say that Twilight Princess won’t come to Switch further down the road, but it certainly doesn’t seem to be on the cards for now. Nintendo could have asked someone else to work on the port but that would be a strange move given the partnership between the two companies.
