Bethesda's Indiana Jones Game Could Use Live Service Features

Bethesda's Indiana Jones Game Could Use Live Service Features

This isn't quite what we had in mind for the game.

The new Indiana Jones game, which is in the works with MachineGames, might feature monetisation and that seems to suggest the game will be a live service title.

The news landed at the start of this year, and it’s safe to say that no one is more excited than Bethesda’s head honcho Todd Howard. "I think I originally pitched [to George] Lucas in 2009, and I've been trying to find a way to make that [since]," he said in an interview with The Telegraph. "And I think the work MachineGames have done, they're just phenomenal developers and storytellers. And when I started talking to them about it, it was a good fit. And we got the opportunity to talk to Lucas and Disney about it and they were super excited."

Indiana Jones & The Staff Of Kings was the last Indiana Jones game to be released and it didn’t set the world on fire, truth be told. This one, though untitled at the moment, is set in the midst of the original trilogy of movies and it’s going to be exclusive to PC and Xbox. That last part checks out, seeing that Microsoft’s deal to acquire Bethesda and its subsidiaries like MachineGames was one for the history books.

Details are appreciably thin on the ground as the game is in the very early stages of its development. Nevertheless, you are able to sneak an insight into the possible trajectory of a project by looking through the career opportunities at a studio of interest.

Right now, MachineGames is after a monetization and live designer who would “manage the economy/monetization components to meet player expectations and creative directions.” While the game that this person would be working on is not named, we do know that the studio has its nose to the grindstone on the Indiana Jones game and the next Wolfenstein game.

The monetization and live designer would be the one thinking up “features that monetize and re-engage players in a consumer-friendly way” and devise initiatives for “regular updates to the in-game store.” This isn’t quite the single-player action RPG that I had in mind for a new Indiana Jones game, yet it’s plausible that there’s going to be a multiplayer or live element to either of the two projects. Of course, we’re clutching at straws here until MachineGames offers us an update on the games, so watch this space for more.
