Overwatch players must move quickly to mop up the rest of their coveted skins and cosmetics in the hero shooter, as Blizzard has announced that loot boxes will be pulled from sale soon.

Of course, Overwatch itself will be unplayable from the start of October. If players have any unopened loot boxes on their Overwatch account, they will be automatically opened and their contents automatically added to the player's collection. Any unspent currencies including credits, OWL tokens, and competitive points will also transfer over once the sequel is live.

Here's the trailer for Overwatch 2: featuring new five-on-five matches, a new game mode, new heroes and significant reworks for established characters.

There's a whole hullaballoo whether or not Overwatch 2 is even necessary, given the devoted fanbase for the original game and the seemingly minimal changes that Blizzard is bringing to the new game. Was the font swap that important, truly?

We could talk about this til the cows come home, however, it doesn't change the fact that Overwatch 2 is inbound. "After six great years of payload pushing and high-intensity brawls around the world, the fight for the future is just beginning. Now, as we prepare to enter a new era of epic competition, it’s time for one last hurrah," read the patch notes for the Anniversary Remix Vol. 3 event. The crucial thing to note is that loot boxes will no longer be purchasable after 30 August but standard loot boxes will be earnable after Anniversary Remix Vol. 3 wraps up.

The Anniversary loot boxes contain cosmetics from past Anniversary and seasonal events as well as the latest celebratory items, so if you had your eye on Oasis Symmetra or Sherlock Cassidy, this is your last chance.
