Borderlands: EchoVision officially announced

Roll up, roll up. Finally, we have some official Borderlands news. Borderlands: EchoVision has been announced - a brand new interactive streaming experience.

It’s been an eventful couple of days for the Borderlands franchise. After months of silence, The Borderlands Compilation: Pandora’s Box seemingly leaked online last week. The collection is yet to be announced officially but it’s been rated by the South Africa ratings board so we should expect an announcement sooner rather than later. Alongside that, the Borderlands film received a release date and shall launch in cinemas on 9 August 2024. The Last of Us writer Craig Mazin recently removed his name from the writing credits which is never a good sign, but we’ll withhold judgment. On top of all this, Borderlands: EchoVision has also been revealed.

Speaking of game adaptations, Gran Turismo is set to release on 11 August. Take a look at the film in action below.

Borderlands: EchoVision Live is a new interactive project by Genvid Entertainment, who are also developing Silent Hill: Ascension. Is it a game? Is it a streaming series? Well, it’s sort of both. The community-influenced game will see viewers make decisions, determining how the series will unfold.

EchoVision is set to focus on eight tourists who find themselves marooned on Eden-6 - which you may remember from Borderlands 3. There, they’ll attempt to “follow in the footsteps of Vault Hunters and bask in their glory,” reads the synopsis. Genvid CEO Jacob Navok said in a press release, “Every decision you make, every moment you participate matters. This is your chance to make a mark, to leave a legacy in this world. Decisions don’t have a reset button and are shared by all participants.”

“We love the Borderlands universe because the fanbase has fully embraced its focus on diverse characters, heartfelt storytelling, and irreverent humour, traits that fit our communal storytelling format perfectly," added chief creative officer Stephan Bugaj. "Borderlands EchoVision Live is not only a brand-new story and cast set in the Borderlands universe, but an exciting new type of experience for the franchise in which the entire audience collaborates and competes to drive narrative outcomes."

It’s unknown which streaming platform or site the experience will eventually be available on, but we’ll be keeping an eye out.
