Brendan Fraser delights audience with surprise appearance during screening of The Mummy

Brendan Fraser has done it again. This man lights up the internet, one public appearance at a time. On this occasion, 90s heartthrob Brendan surprised fans by turning up at a screening of The Mummy in London.

Brendan, of course, starred as Rick O’Connell in The Mummy all the way back in 1999. The actor is currently on a worldwide press tour in support of his latest film Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. In the film, Brendan plays a 600-pound social recluse who attempts to rekindle his relationship with his teenage daughter (Sadie Sink) as his health drastically declines. The actor recently won a Critics Choice Award for the performance but amidst the busyness of awards season, Brendan has also found time to surprise fans.

The actor turned up at the Prince Charles Cinema this week. Located in London’s Leicester Square, the cinema was screening the first two Mummy films. Just before the first film was due to start, Fraser walked dressed as his character Rick. You can imagine, this went down very well indeed with the rather excited audience.

As reported by UNILAD, Fraser said, “Thank you – Friday night in Leicester Square. I first started seeing films right across the street. I saw Star Wars in 1977 and it changed my life. It made me want to be in the movies. I’m proud to stand before you tonight because this is a film that is made in Britain, you should know that. It was at Shepperton, we shot it in Morocco, and even the second one too – be proud.”

“Thank you for being here, we had no idea what kind of movie we were making when we shot this,” he continued. “We didn’t know if it was a drama or a comedy, or straight-ahead action, romance, horror picture, more action, all of the above – no idea. [..] I won’t take up any more of your time. Enjoy your night, and if you get a chance, check out The Whale on February 3. Good night, and keep your powder clean.” Legend.
