These days when we think of Rockstar Games, franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead spring to mind but amidst all that, there was once Bully. This PlayStation 2 gem was released back in 2006 and despite its respectable sales figures, Bully 2 never seemed to materialise.
The third-person action-adventure is set within the town of Bullworth and sees players take on the role of Jimmy. Essentially, Jimmy completes a number of missions in a bid to become popular and unsurprisingly becomes somewhat of a bully along the way. If this is bringing on a wave of nostalgia, I have a treat for you as Bully has undergone the Unreal Engine 5 treatment.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, take a look at this incredible fan-made Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remake concept trailer.
One creator has reimagined Bully, recreating some of the game’s iconic scenes and locations in Unreal Engine 5. The fan-made concept trailer is the work of YouTuber TeaserPlay. Speaking about the project, the creator wrote: “In this video, we are going to imagine a Bully remake - a great nostalgic game that we need now in next-gen graphics. We tried to use all the power and features of Unreal Engine 5 to recreate this, such as Lumen, Nanite, Ray Tracing and Metahuman to create Jimmy Hopkins and Dr Crabblesnitch’s Face.” Take a look below.
Bully was later remastered in 2008 when it was released to Xbox 360 and Wii. In 2016, a 1080p version of the PlayStation 2 original was added to PlayStation Network but even still, the graphics of both versions reflect their age.
Fans flocked to the comments section of the UE5 trailer to show their adoration. Bruce 001 wrote, “Someone show this to Rockstar,” whilst Peeblo added, “Wow. This is exactly how I want a Bully remake to be.” Amine Mokdad said, “The way I see it, Rockstar should hire such a talented creator. Great job mate,” and Chucky Games rounded out the praise, saying, “Man this is so beautiful. I need a remake like this. This is so nostalgic. It’s so beautiful that a man could cry.”
