Call Of Duty meets Cuphead in gorgeous new FPS

Ever wondered what Cuphead would look like if it was an FPS? Well the upcoming Steam title, MOUSE, is exactly that.

MOUSE, is a cartoonish FPS similar to run-and-gun action games like Call of Duty and DOOM. Developed by Fumi Games, the game boasts an absolutely gorgeous art style, a fun soundtrack, and duck-and-cover shooting gameplay that looks like it’ll be a lot of fun. Stylistically, it’s similar to Cuphead, in the sense that players will be running through a beautifully crafted cartoon world, blasting goons, jamming out, and blowing stuff up

The game uses rubber-hose animation, a style made popular in the 1920-30s with characters like Betty Boop. It emphasises expressive movements, with characters often having bendy bodies, and uses watercolours and other oily paint to achieve its fluid effect. It’s a unique style, and not one you see a lot nowadays, which is why it’s great to see games like Cuphead, Bendy and the Ink Machine and now MOUSE bringing it back to the mainstream.

MOUSE’s description on Steam reads: “Join private detective John Mouston in MOUSE, a gritty, jazz-fueled shooter. With guns blazing and a retro rubber hose animation style, battle your way through a corrupt city full of crooks and danger. Inspired by classic FPS and noir films, MOUSE is the explosive shooter you've been waiting for."

Judging from the gameplay we’ve seen so far, it looks like an absolute riot, complete with a bobbing soundtrack and a variety of hand-drawn environments to charge through.

If you’re dying to give this game a go, there’s some bad news, there’s currently no confirmed release date for the shooter, so we could be waiting a while before it graces our PCs. Rest assured though, we’ll be diving straight into MOUSE when it launches on Steam, whenever that may be.
