'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' Release Date And First Look Officially Drops

'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' Release Date And First Look Officially Drops

The Price is right

After experiencing more leaks than a ship made of swiss cheese and crumpets, Activision and Infinity Ward have finally announced that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released this October.

In a new Tweet shared on the official Call Of Duty Twitter account, Infinity Ward shared a first look at Modern Warfare 2 that teased some of the characters and locations, as well as confirming an October 28 release date.

Take a look for yourself below!

Activision also showed off what looks like it will be the cover art for Modern Warfare 2 by slapping it on the side of a shipping container. Because just announcing things normally isn't a thing this industry knows how to do anymore, apparently.

The key art shows off an imposing operator wearing a skull mask, who we're assuming is fan-favourite character Ghost. The trailer also confirms John "Soap" MacTavish and Captain John Price, who longtime fans will be familiar with. Let's hope the bromance remains as strong as it ever was.

The new game's colour scheme is also a little brighter than the darker tones of 2019's Modern Warfare, although we're guessing the sequel will be no-less gritty. At least until the inevitable Donkey Kong crossover event a few months after launch.

We'll learn much more about Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in the coming weeks. While currently unconfirmed, it's been suggested that the game's campaign will be set in Latin America and see players embark on a mission to take down a drug cartel.

Infinity Ward apparently has plans to go big with this new Call Of Duty campaign, in a story that could see characters live or die based on your choices. No pressure.

It's also been hinted at that a remastered multiplayer mode for the original 2009 Modern Warfare 2 will launch as part of the 2022 Modern Warfare 2. In the same way 2019's Modern Warfare revived classic maps and weapons from the original Modern Warfare, we can expect maps like Rust and Terminal to end up in the 2022 shooter. Watch this space.
