Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies is the biggest zombies mode yet

Back from the dead

Call of Duty Next has happened and we have a lot of information about the new Zombies mode, usually handled by Treyarch on their CoD releases. Treyarch is thankfully still handling the popular game mode as it makes its debut to Modern Warfare.

This isn't just the game's debut in the Modern Warfare franchise, but also a kind of reinvention. This will be the biggest version of Zombies due to being merged with Call of Duty's attempt at an extraction shooter, DMZ. DMZ is no more, but it lives on through Zombies, which has now become a PvEvP game mode.

To put it simply, Zombies will now be played across a much larger map which includes many buildings, vehicles and, crucially, other teams fighting against the zombie outbreak. It will be up to you whether you join forces with the other teams you meet, or wipe them out to gain access to their tools.

Due to the map being much larger, this means more zombies than ever, but fans will recognise a lot of the traditional features like base protection and returning items, such as Pack-a-Punch, Perk Colas, The Mystery Box and Wonder Weapon.

With Zombies becoming an extraction mode, players will be able to extract with weapons and items that can then be brought into the next match. It's also possible to find weapon blueprints to further expand your armoury. The showcase seems to have gone down well with viewers of CoD Next and with streamers and CoD pro players.

Zombies has been designed for "replayability" with a focus on extracting tools and items to make future attempts at Zombies a little easier, as long as you aren't wiped out by another squad.

The co-op mode will follow on the story from previous entries within the mini-universe catching up on Zakhaev who is seemingly alive again... but did we actually see him die? Maybe it was all a dream.

Be aware, if you're jumping into the beta or planning on buying Modern Warfare 3, you will need a lot of free space on your console or PC.
