Despite Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III finding itself in Metacritic’s 10 worst games of 2023, statistics have shown that the title has still managed to set an engagement record… somehow.
Released earlier this month, Modern Warfare III is the latest instalment in the long-running Call of Duty franchise. However, it didn’t take long for the title to find itself in hot water after featuring a lacklustre story and a main campaign that is only three hours long. With the game being hailed as a DLC rather than a fully-fledged game, it is no wonder it is now one of the lowest-rated games of 2023.

Despite that, Modern Warfare III has still somehow found itself breaking engagement records, according to developers Sledgehammer Games. Announced on 21 November, the CoD team revealed MWIII had achieved a record-breaking engagement that beat any other title in the Modern Warfare trilogy.

“MWIII has already set records with the highest engagement in the new Modern Warfare trilogy,” announced Sledgehammer Games in a recent Twitter post. Although we are unsure of specific numbers, it is still an impressive feat considering the game was released on 10 November.
Although reviews for MWIII’s campaign have been less than positive, it seems as though the team is sticking to what they know with the multiplayer mode, meaning a lot of players are enjoying their experiences.
As for the campaign, our very own Richard Lee Breslin described it as “a disappointing finale to the rebooted Modern Warfare trilogy”, and “a low point for one of the biggest video game franchises of all time” in his review.
In related news, Activision recently praised the “great” Modern Warfare III response which confused quite a few players considering the game’s mostly negative reception. Additionally, with the launch of the game also making Call of Duty: Warzone unplayable, it seems as though Sledgehammer Games have a lot of issues to iron out.
