'Call Of Duty: Vanguard' Has Hilarious 'Press F To Pay Respects' Easter Egg

Just can't help themselves, can they?

Call Of Duty: Vanguard is out now for PC, Xbox and PlayStation, and players have stumbled upon an Easter egg for that infamous moment of Advanced Warfare

If you have somehow wandered onto the Internet like a wobbly wildebeest calf straying from the herd as the hyenas draw nearer and nearer, this phrase comes from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. In the funeral for one of the characters, the game prompts the player to “Press F to Pay Respects.” Transforming the complexities of grief and loss into a simple command is going to garner a lot of criticism, and given the ludicrousness of the scene and how popular the series is around the world, it swiftly became a meme to express sadness (authentic or otherwise) over a certain event.

Take a look at Vanguard's terrifying Zombies below!

Player MissMolle001 on Twitter shared a clip of their gameplay in the midst of Vanguard’s campaign. After holding a grenade for a little too long, they explode themselves and a silver trophy pops with the title “F.” The team at Sledgehammer Games seems to be simultaneously being self-referential at the series as well as joining in on the enduring joke.

Be that as it may, the simplistic command has also appeared in the story of the new game with this scene set around a table:

Can’t help themselves, can they? If it’s not murderous Tamagotchis in Modern Warfare, it’s dancing zombies in Black Ops Cold War. Of course, the more recent entries to Call Of Duty do try to take the terror of war seriously but these moments are undercut significantly by… everything else.

In spite of the controversy surrounding Activision at the moment, Vanguard has reviewed relatively well with praise for the story and the multiplayer in equal measure. It’s no Forza Horizon 5, though, which is currently the highest-rated release of this year.
